Tropical Plant Cultivation
Accelerated plant development & filming efficiency
Timelapse photography specialist Tim Shepherd was tasked with cultivating Amazonian Giant Water Lilies and Carrion Flowers for BBC’s The Green Planet. These tropical plants require high-intensity PPFD, elevated heat and humidity levels, and 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. They are extremely sensitive to environmental changes, and colder UK conditions would inhibit photosynthesis and significantly slow growth. Filming wild specimens would have taken over a decade; posing a major challenge to production timelines and profitability.
Using Telos 0008 fixtures, Shepherd was able to replicate tropical sunlight conditions with precise PPFD uniformity and controlled spectral output.

The grow lights accelerated biological and photosynthetic processes that typically take more than a year in the wild, significantly improving filming efficiency and enabling time-sensitive media production.
